How to keep then sharp?
I love making birthday cards, and with SU punches they are easier than ever. But what happens when your punches are not giving you clean cuts? How do you sharpen them?
Well, it is easier than you think. First, it is easier to sharpen them at the first sign of the punch getting dull. When they get really dull, it takes more work to sharpen. However, this is a great job for the children and they will consider it play time.
How to Sharpen your SU Punches?
- Take out the aluminum foil.
- You will need a piece about 12" long. A larger piece for larger punches.
- Fold the foil in thirds from top to bottom, about 4". Now side to side in half.
- Important : Be sure all the foil is folded firm and flat. This will prevent it from getting stuck in your punch.
- Now let's cut out some fun foil pieces. (Do not throw away) Cut out several, then test your punch on card stock. Still not sharp, repeat using another piece of folded foil.
- One more step; we need to keep the cutting edges waxed so they punch easier. Cut off a piece of wax paper. Fold it as before and punch.
As you can see we are using our foil heart on this great birthday card.

Sale-a-bration Metallic Washi Tape
Playing around with the new metallic washi tape (#141020). Thought it would look nice as a back ground in some new cards. This is what I came up with.....
One of my favorite bundles is the Botanical Blooms Set. (#140819). As this card is a little larger than most cards (A-6 4 5/8 x 6 1/4), it was necessary to extend the border. The washi tape was laid side by side until it was wide each to reach under the edging. About 3 strips on the right side and 2 strips on the left side. Adding flowers, leaves and rhinestones colored with Pink Pirouette on the pink card. The center of each flower is a rhinestone covered with Dazzling Details gold (#133755).

Using your Botanical Builder Framelits cut out 3 double layer flowers from the set, 5 fern leaves,
and edge both sides of the Wisteria Wonder with the border framelit.

If you are using the Metallic Washi Tape line 2 strips on the left side of the cards stock and 4 on
the right side of the cards stock. Be sure to line them up side by side. When using the Gold
Glimmer paper be sure to cut to 5.5 x 4.25.

Place Gold backing to the front of your card.

Curl your flowers inside pieces down with a bone folder.

Place fern leaves, rhinestone basic jewels and gold metallic thread. Then arrange your 3 flowers
on top. Using the 1⁄4 “ circle punch to the center with dimensional to add a pop.

Arrange flowers and adhere using dimensional.
-
Stamp you favorite sediment on 2 x 2 3⁄4 and adhere to your card.

Never stress about not having the right color ribbon again!
Always have the RIGHT COLOR RIBBON
You are almost done with a great project, and then you realize...... you have no ribbon that matches. Don't panic. As long has you have Stampin Up refills and white ribbon you can match your project perfectly.
Supplies:
white ribbon
SU ink refill
Water
zip lock bag
hair dryer
gloves (optional)
wire hanger
cloths pins
- Cut the amount of white ribbon you are planning to dye. Remember the more ribbon you need to dye the more ink you are going to need. Let's start with 24 inches of white ribbon.
- Place 15 drops of the ink refill color of your choice in the zip lock bag. Now spray water, about 3 full sprays, in the zip lock bag. Mix the water and ink together.
- Place your ribbon in the back and seal it removing as much air as possible. Now just rub the bag with the ribbon until the ribbon is the color you want. If it is not dark enough add more ink. Add water, if it is too dark.
- Once you have the color you want, take the ribbon from the bag. Use gloves if you like. Pin the ribbon to a wire hanger. Using a hair dryer to dry the ribbon.
Dying your own ribbon is a great way to save money. I have bought several rolls of ribbon just to get home and they don't match. Using Stampin Up products and colors this will never happen again.
Bonus tip: Want to have something on the ribbon. No problem. Stamp the ribbon once it is dry with Staz On ink or you can use a water base ink, but know it may run. Now you can have your own custom designed ribbon.
