Magical Mermaid Stamp Set from Stampin Up

Magical Mermaid
(OnStage November 2017)

I always get excited when Stampin Up convention rolls around. Each one brings new products and new ideas. Of course, I like to offer my own new ideas. This year, I have created a card that offers you a chance to enjoy using several techniques: heat embossing, water coloring, using our new Blends alcohol markers and dry embossing. Yet this card is quick and easy to make. Let's get started.

Supplies: Magical Mermaid Stamp Set

    •    Whisper White card stock. ( I like thick, since we will be doing so many different techniques.)
    •    Embossing Buddy
    •    Versa Mark
    •    Copper embossing powder
    •    Heat tool
    •    2 bottles of refill (I used Soft Sky and Pear Pizzazz)
    •    Aqua Painter (2)
    •    Blends (Calypso Coral- light and dark, Daffodil Delight- light and dark, Ivory, Bronze )
    •    Ruffled embossing folder
    •    Big Shot
    •    Early Expresso Ink pad
    •    Momento Ink pad
    •    Bermuda Bay card stock
    •    Paper Snips.
    •    Mini Dimensional
    •    Fast Fuse Adhesive

I like to start with my thick Whisper White a little large. 5 1/2 x 4 1/4. This allows me to trim off any rough or undesirable edges. Always drop the embossing buddy and rub it across the card to reduce any static.

Prevent extra powder or glitter from sticking to your project. Just rub across paper before application.

Using the sea weed stamp, I stamp across the bottom of my card using Versa Mark

Stampin’ Emboss Powder

Turn stamped images into glossy raised designs. Just use VersaMark Pad (p. 200), Stampin’ Emboss Powder, and Heat Tool (p. 201). 1/2 oz.

After stamping with Versa Mark you can see the shine when placed under the light just right.

Coat with Copper embossing powder. Shake off any excess, lightly tap the edge of the card on the table.
Heat using your Heat tool until you see the embossing powder melt and create a shiny surface.

Let's set up for water coloring. Fill 2 Aqua Painter with water, one for each color. Next add a few drops of water.

Place a drop or two of Soft Sky and Pear Pizzazz on a non absorbent surface. I have laminated a few grid sheet just for water coloring. (Email me if you would like to have one). You can also use your large clear block, just be sure the colors do NOT mix.
Remember the more water you add the lighter the color will be.
Using Pear Pizzazz, lightly brush over the leafy part of the embossed sea weed. Then using soft sky, cover the complete embossed area. Let it dry for a few minutes. Normally by the time, I have water colored all four cards I am making, they are dry enough to continue.

Stamp your sentiment using Early Expresso ink pad. I often use Early Expresso in place of black. To me it is just a softer shade than always using black.

Now we are ready to dry emboss with the Ruffled embossing folder. As your card may still be damp, this will make for an even nicer embossing lines.  When placing my card in the embossing folder, I did not go to the top of the folder. For me a line closer to the top gave you the allusion the water goes above the top of the card.

We are ready to use our new Blend alcohol markers. Start by stamping the mermaid using Momento black ink pad. Remember alcohol markers do not require a heavy hand. In fact a lighter touch will give you better coverage without wearing the tip. Our markers have a brush end and a fine tip end. Look at the marker, noticing the single line on each end. One is thick, the brush end and one is thin, indicating the fine tip end. It does not matter if you start with your darker color or lighter color marker. Out of habit, I normally start with the lighter color. Then I go over the areas I want to be darker with the darker colors. I finish by blending over the edges of the darker color with my lighter color a second time. Now you will not have any strong edges, just a soft transition of color. Just a note, I seldom use the Lifter marker. It is great if you color outside the lines and want to remove the marks. For normal blending I like to blend with a lighter color

Using your paper Snips, let's cut out our mermaid.

All you have left is to assemble your card.

Laurel Framelits and Lovely Friends

Our July Club enjoyed finding new ways to use Laurel Framelits. Above you will find one of our creations. This card front or embellishment for a scrapbook page; used So Saffron, with Pinewood Plank. This is one of Stampin Up's 3D dynamic textured impression embossing folder. (Hint: Using the Spritzer (126185) lightly spray a mist of water over the cardstock. Then run it through your Big Shot hinged end first.)
Some important information about the Laurel Framelits. First the wreath has a left and right side. It is important that you cut one of each to make a single wreath. However, the banner can be reversed, so you will need to cut 2 of the banner. You will only need one of the center banner.

Let's take a look at some pictures to demonstrate the pieces you will need and how they are put together. In this photo notice there is a right and left side. I have made them different colors only to show you how they interlock.
Notice below they are interlock and have some wiggle room to open or close them more.

When you look at the back you can see how the flaps are folded. For this card; we can just adhere it to the card stock. But for other card you will need to place the edge on the fold of the card. Leaving one side on the right and the second side on the left of the fold.

Now lets look at the banner; as it fold the same way. Again I am using different colored cardstock to show how the pieces fit together. The blushing bride and real red are cut using the same die cut. As stated previously you need 2 of this cut.

To lock them together, you simple flip on piece around 180 degrees. Interlock the at the slits.  When you first slit them together you will see pieces stick up on each side; Now notice how they are folded to the back.

This is the same fold used on the wreath and it is placed on the card fold in the same matter. Placing one half on each side of the cards folder. Then when you open and close the card, your banner will move up and down.

Last place the green piece across the center. Notice there is a score in the middle? This score should be located in the center of the card.

Now lets take a look at some other cards using the same Laurel Framelits:

Not your average beach card. Just a few fish swimming around...... until you open the inside.
Then the Magic Mermaid and the Laurel Framelites. The wreath section was double to look like sea weed.

Window Shopping sets the stage for this card. This card was made by one of the members in our club, casing the class card. Ooops forgot to put the bow on.... Oh well, you get the picture

It opens up to a wonderful surprise!! This is a great bundle...... one you will not want to miss.
